All talk and no action at the National Assembly

           Caracas. Yesterday the ordinary online session of the National Assembly of Venezuela (AN) began with an agenda that covered several points pertinent to the current critical situation in the nation. However, the parliament did not take any significant action to address them, reserving its efforts to only debate them briefly.

Starting the first point on the agenda, which dealt with the electoral conditions for holding clean and transparent elections, deputy Omar Barboza listed a list of various requirements for the upcoming elections to be safe, including guaranteeing voting security and the establishment of an independent National Electoral Council.

He was followed by deputies Macario González, Oneiber Peraza, and Ángel Medina, each of them declaring the desire of the Venezuelan people to vote, the inexistence of a democratic apparatus in the nation and the fight that must be fought to achieve these conditions.

Guaidó rejected the threats to the EU.

One of the few notable events of the session resulted when the acting President of Venezuela Juan Guaidó condemned the threats that the national government made towards the European Union embassy days before, calling it a "failed move" of the Maduro regime, while guaranteeing to maintain diplomatic relations with that organization.

Taking into account that the Venezuelan nation is facing a pandemic with a weakened health system, and with parliamentary elections looming in the distance, the nation can only wait for the decisions that the AN can take to solve them as soon as possible.
